Pickfair: Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford | ||
Doug and Mary. They needed no last name then, for they were the undisputed king and queen of Hollywood. Their home, christened "Pickfair," became one of the most glamourous private residences in the world, host to writers, kings, queens, and presidents. The home, originally a hunting lodge on Benedict Canyon, was purchased by Doug as a wedding present for Mary. Architect Wallace Neff was hired to remodel the structure into a 22-room Tudor, done in the English country manner style. Despite the frescoed ceilings, parquet floors, inlain wood paneling, and leaded windows, the home was at once cozy and intimate. |
